Fluid Loss Control Additives

Cement slurries can lose water to permeable zones causing a number of problems, such as insufficient mud displacement, high viscosity, unwanted change of set-time, and lack of final compressive strength. Fluid loss additives reduce water loss through the cement filter cake, which makes them especially useful in squeeze cementing. 

The Polytrol® FL line of products are effective fluid loss control chemicals for use in differing conditions and requirements, such as high temperatures and high salt concentrations.

Polytrol® FL 29 is a dispersing fluid loss additive
  • For primary or squeeze operations through a wide temperature range up to 280 ºF
  • Acts as a mild retarder
  • It’s dispersing effect permits the design of low viscosity slurries. A separate dispersant may not be needed
  • Compatible with all classes of cement and a wide variety of typical cement additives
  • Appropriate for fresh or seawater, but not for slurries loaded with salt
  • Helps to keep the horsepower low by controlling viscosity and circulation pressures
  • Non-hazardous
Polytrol® FL 32 is a dispersing fluid loss additive
  • Excellent filtration control and flow properties in oilwell cement slurries up to 200 ºF
  • Permits the design of low-viscosity slurries
  • A very mild retarder, even at temperatures as low as 100 ºF
  • Specifically suited for shallow well cementing
  • Outstanding performance in salt concentrations up to 18%
  • Non-hazardous
Polytrol® FL 34 is a high-performance, non-retarding fluid loss additive
  • Excellent fluid loss control in oilwell cement slurries up to 400 °F
  • The non-retarding properties are also ideal in light cement compositions that often have extended thickening times
  • Excellent performance in salt concentrations up to 18%
  • Provides right angle set of cement slurries preventing gas migration into the cement column
  • Non-hazardous
Polytrol® FL 45 is a high-performance fluid loss additive
  • Excellent fluid loss control in oilwell cement slurries up to 400 °F
  • Very mild retarder, even at temperatures as low as 100 ºF
  • Specifically suited for shallow well cementing
  • Excellent performance in salt concentrations up to 18%
  • Provides right angle set of cement slurries preventing gas migration into the cement column
  • Specially compatible with dispersants and retarders
  • Non-hazardous
Polytrol® FL 56 is a high-performance dispersing fluid loss additive
  • Excellent fluid-loss control in high temperature wells
  • Especially effective when used in slurries with high salt concentration or slurries which may include a weighting agent
  • Performs well over a wide temperature range of up to 400°F or even above
  • Excellent performance in salt concentrations up to 18%
  • Does not tend to increase viscosity which also makes it ideal for slurries mixed with strength-stabilizing agents such as silica flour
  • In many cases there is no need for an additional dispersant
  • Non-hazardous
